"Your Dog"
Order a commissioned Sculpture of your dog! Our Series of Doxie Sculptures to highlight former and current foster dogs, celebrate the Dachshund Breed, and raise money for rescue, has become an orderable item in our shop!
Up and Coming Artist Michael S Lawson of Wiener Tales creates each one of his Paper-Mache Sculptures by hand.
No two are alike, this particular listing is for a commissioned work of your dog and will require you to send Mike at least 10 pictures of your dog in various poses/angles.
Michael is an established screen printer, sign maker, graphic artist, and has also worked with many mediums including wood, water colors, acrylic, and more.
Searching for his inner artist he has tried everything, and it seems he has found his medium! Michael takes great consideration and time and with each sculpture he creates they get even more detailed and amazing!
He seems to capture the soul of our silly Wiener Dogs, and you can see that he spends a great deal of time with them, sculpting small nuances that other artisits seem to ignore.

...not to mention it has been a rough year and we would love to be able to get each of our forever and foster dogs a new toy and our daughter a nice small easel for painting, from Santa :-) Hey I am honest! It has been a rough year! The Wiener Mobile has taken every extra dime we have!
About Papier-Mache
Papier-mâché paste is the substance that holds the paper together. The traditional method of making papier-mâché paste is to use a mixture of water and flour or other starch, mixed to the consistency of heavy cream. While any adhesive can be used if thinned to a similar texture, such as polyvinyl acetate based glues (wood glue or, in the US, white Elmer's glue), the flour and water mixture is the most economical. Adding oil of cloves or other additives to the mixture reduces the chances of the product developing mold. The paper is cut or torn into strips, and soaked in the paste until saturated. The saturated pieces are then placed onto the surface and allowed to dry slowly; drying in an oven can cause warping or other dimensional changes during the drying process. The strips may be placed on an armature, or skeleton, often of wire mesh over a structural frame, or they can be placed on an object to create a cast. Oil or grease can be used as a release agent if needed. Once dried, the resulting material can be cut, sanded and/or painted, and waterproofed by painting with a suitable water repelling paint.
Mike uses a blend of flour, water, Elmer's glue, occasionally melted glue sticks, foil, paper board, string, paper towels, newspaper, toilet paper, and tissue paper. Each layer he creates gets a different recipe, depending on the size and shape of the sculpture. Mike typically works on 3 or 4 sculptures at a time, waiting for two to dry while working on another in between printing for the business.
Mike's Sculptures take between 6 and 15 days to make, depending on size and detail.
